Planting Roots in Jacksonville
Free Tree Jax started with a simple question: what if we could make Jacksonville a little greener, one yard at a time? We're a volunteer-run nonprofit with deep roots in the Jacksonville community, and our mission is straightforward — give free pine tree saplings to anyone who wants one.
Jacksonville is one of the largest cities by land area in the continental United States, which means there's a lot of space that could be home to more trees. Trees cool our streets, clean our air, support wildlife, and make neighborhoods more beautiful. We believe every resident deserves access to that.
We focus exclusively on pine trees because they're native to Florida. They thrive in our sandy soil, require minimal watering once established, and grow into magnificent trees that can stand for decades. A pine tree planted today is a gift to future generations of Jacksonville residents.
